The battle to be established as the world’s top international sports facility just became more difficult as Phuket International Academy Sports and Leisure Club (PIASLC) has selected former Muay Thai champion “Thanootong’’ Prasert Intanoo to lead the martial arts programme at the new Phuket, Thailand sports centre.   Just as muay thai boxing requires perseverance and talent, the selection is a further example of the PIASLC recruiting world-class professionals to work at the up-and-coming high-quality facility and help position it as the first choice sports and leisure destination in Asia.

Former Thailand national flyweight champ Khun Prasert was a Muay Thai professional boxer for 15 years with an notable record of seventy victories.  He graduated from Taksin University in Songkhla Province with a degree in physical education.  He went on to work for the Marriott hospitality group as a Muay Thai teacher, and in his role as Recreation Supervisor directed wellness, corporate teambuilding and kid’s zone activities. Khun “Nok” (his Thai nickname) is also a qualified Pilates instructor and certified by the Thai Yoga Institute as a teacher.

Phuket International Academy Mind Centre (PIAMC) is nearing completion and will before long start to provide training in the cultivation of cognitive and emotional balance.   The PIAMC will  provide  a blend of contemporary psychology and neuroscience alongside traditional Asian contemplative practices.  Featuring accessibility, the Phuket International Academy Mind Centre conducts retreats and seminars.  Working in close interaction with the Phuket International Academy Day School and the PIA Sports and Leisure Club, the programmes offered through Phuket International Academy Mind Centre will contribute to everyone’s healthier mental balance and wellbeing.  April 10th marks the launch of the PIA Mind Centre (PIAMC) with a weekend “Genuine Happiness Retreat” led by Dr. B Alan Wallace.  The retreat incorporates two methods for cultivating meditative quiescence referred to as shamatha.  It teaches the practice of “mindfulness of breathing”, which is helpful way for soothing the body and calming the mind. A second method taught is both a shamatha practice and vipashyana, “insight meditation” or “settling the mind in its natural state”.

Phuket International Academy is an integrated facility hosting Phuket’s newest International School, a versatile Sports and Leisure Club for elite athletes, amateur enthusiasts, artists and wellness seekers – all within the Mind Centre sanctuary that provides training in the cultivation of mental and emotional equilibrium.
